GPS ground control software release set for today

Air Force Space Command will be installing the software release, AEP 5.5D, for the GPS on Friday. The software installation will not affect end users. The software is building on the January 2010 upgrade to the GPS ground control segment, and is designed to support the first GPS IIF space vehicle.

Transparency to all users has been tested for this version and confidence is said to be very high that it will perform without any change noticeable to users.

However, civilians experiencing any anomalies should contact the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center. Military end users who experience any anomalies should contact the 50th Space Wing’s GPS Operations Center (GPSOC).
